Aquarium, it's terrific! The Aquarium of the Pacific...

Gideon has moved to 12 hour shifts and with me not working Fridays anymore, we spent a very fun Friday at the Aquarium of the Pacific. It's so nice to be a member and drop in and out as we like. Joaquin loves it there and when you can drop in on a Friday at 2, it gives him plenty of opportunity to walk around and talk to the fish. We went to dim sum before this, which he also loved...it was such a great family day, just what I used to daydream of when we would talk about having a baby...perfect!

My first car

So a big thanks to Uncle Mark and Aunt Sally, who have given him his first car, which allows him to skoot all over...he loves it! Check out the tongue...that's determination!

9 months old!

9 months is going to be a big month for us, I can tell. Over the weekend that he turned 9 months, he had his first big accident (see previous post), started mimicking while playing, and became mobile (see forthcoming post). The mimicking is really fun. He has decided that when we sit down to eat, he will feed me too, so we now take turns eating banana or bread. Our new favorite fun game is to make noise in cardboard tubes--taking turns. He has always loved the tubes, but this weekend was the first time he figured out he could talk in it too.

He will consistently respond to his name now and will tap you or pull at you to get your attention. His new favorite thing to say is "good-good" when he really likes something. And he's decided that before he can walk (nevermind crawling...that is obviously for babies), he is going to work on running. He likes to run (with help) every time someone new comes into the room.

And yes, every day he confirms his disdain for crawling. He pushes up on all 4s ala downward dog and then puts one arm up in the air and starts grunting. We are spending many back-aching hours walking around the house with him...around the coffee table, to the doors to look outside, and his favorite--to go see what Bailey is doing.

Daddy's stuff

Joaquin has been saying "My momma" since the beginning of his babbling, but last night he said "My daddy"...it's very cute.

He has also decided that his daddy has the best stuff and that daddy's areas must be the most fun places to play in the whole house. So he now makes his way to the A/V stuff or tries to get in the garage whenever he can. When he gets something new, he puts it in his hand and wants to walk around the house to show it to someone. We look for Gideon or Uncle Nate and then we head back to daddy's area to get something new.

Our bruiser

Joaquin has been much more mobile and, as such, we're getting our first bumps and bruises. Here's his first major one...he put his tooth through his lip while exploring the fridge. Poor thing had a bleeding upper lip which has now scabbed over...not so great with his cold, which means we've got all sorts of goo going in it. What a trooper!
