Supermodel!

Joaquin had a photo shoot with Shannon Lott on Saturday. She got some beautiful photos and posted a preview on her blog. Click on the photo to the left to see her full preview. I'll post the full thing when it comes later and I'm sure we'll be using one of these for our announcements!

3 weeks old

Joaquin celebrated 3 weeks with his first bath. He was ok with it until water got on his head and then he really wasn't ok with it. We took video...when Gid finds the cord to our new camcorder (thanks Mom!), I'll post it.

Wow, it is hot here!

It is super hot here...100+ for the past 3 days. We've had the AC on non-stop, which I have mixed feelings about. I'm grateful that we have it, but I am dreading the e-bill. I am also a little bitter that our construction didn't end in time for us to get our solar up.

Joaquin got his first piece of mail on Saturday:

It is a tool kit from my college roommate, Heidi. How appropriate! Too bad he can't strap it on now and help out!

And one more as Gideon thinks this shot is hilarious--he says, like father like son!

Joaquin is 2 weeks old

Joaquin turned 2 weeks old on Thursday and had his first doctor's appointment on Friday. He now weighs 8 lbs., but it doesn't appear that he's grown much...maybe 1/4 inch, but it was hard to tell because he was so squirmy. He is a little below average for height and weight for boys his age, but the doctor said he looked perfect. Great pediatrician, she is definitely a keeper.

We are noticing that he is staying awake more and exploring more. There was a mirror on the exam table and he really liked looking at himself. He also likes watching our ceiling fans. He is also smiling more, but we can't seem to make him smile with any of the cheek-stroking tricks.

I am amazed at how much of a little boy he looks like. His looks change daily and he definitely looks like a little boy rather than just a baby.

Gideon returns to work tomorrow and he is sad to go. I am sad to see him go as I am pretty chained to the couch for most of the day nursing. I am so grateful nursing is going so well, but he wants to eat for the majority of the day light hours, which makes doing anything around the house (or getting dressed, eating, etc.) difficult. Luckily, Joaquin and I are late risers, so I'm hoping we won't have to be alone too long on most days!

Gideon's first father's day

Today was Gideon's first father's day. He spent it working super hard in the yard fixing the sprinkler system. Water saving sprinklers as we try to save the world for our son : )...so the tired look on his face is from hard labor, not Joaquin!
