First steps!

Joaquin took his first steps yesterday! In the same vein as when he turned over and sat up and did all that stuff at once...within a week he's started to crawl, regularly pulls himself up on things and yesterday, let go of the box he was holding on to and took two steps towards me before falling in my arms. He looked up with a big smile and said "Da-da?" , so we went to the window immediately to tell Da-da. We said, "tell Daddy what you did" and he started walking along the bathtub back and forth.

This is a pic of the first time I walked out of a room and walked back in to find him standing up.

Fun at the zoo

I haven't posted these yet and since I am on a very long conference call...

We went to Santa Barbara for my mom's birthday earlier in the month and had a great time. We started in Los Olivos for wine tasting...great because you can park and walk all over. Spent the night in Solvang in a very nice hotel. We got a great deal on that hotel and we took full advantage of it...slept at 9 pm, dinner in the restaurant, everyone went swimming...the room even had an electric fireplace, which we kept on all night! The next day, we went to the Santa Barbara Zoo, which is nice...small and beautifully landscaped. Joaquin liked it, although he seemed to like the fence along the border the best.

Joaquin is standing up on his own all the time now and has started experimenting with letting our hands go so he is on his own. He is crawling now, although very reluctantly and he is very vocal about how much he dislikes it...he'll do everything in his power to get you to help him to walk. I had a first experience of leaving him in a room and coming back to find him across the room and standing up holding the chair on his own!

Here is my favorite pic from the zoo:

Too busy to be sick...

Joaquin is not feeling well. He had a fever last week and has some sort of cold now. I also have a cold...comes with the territory, right? The catch is that we don't have time to be sick right now. We're going on vacation next week, I have a massive project at work, and I have yet to start my 15 page paper that's due on Monday. Just have to get through the week, but it is killing me to drop him off at daycare in the morning when I know he just wants to snuggle and read books.

10 months old

This month has been crazy. My spring semester ends in 10 days, Gid started working 12 hour shifts, and we had a little weekender for my mom's birthday. I had to go back and read the 9 month post to see what had changed in a month. As always, I am astounded at what can happen in a month...last month I downloaded the month's photos to blogger on the same day and by the time I got around to writing the posts, things had already changed.

For instance, getting into all the AV stuff...that's still the same, but the fact that he is sitting in that pic is a non-possibility now. He wants to walk everywhere...and stand while he is doing things. I've been told that he will occasionally crawl at daycare...I have yet to see it. Yes, I know I have encouraged the behavior by walking all around with him. Classic psych, right? But he's been wanting to stand and walk since he can hold his head up, so I think it's a combination.

We had alot of teeth come in...5. He's now got 3 all the way out and 2 that are 1/2 to 3/4 of their way out.

He is feeding himself most of the time, unless he is really tired.

We got a guide to planning first birthdays in the mail from Toys R Us yesterday. My, my...where did the time go?

9 month photos (1 month late)

About a month ago, we took 9 month pictures with a very talented photographer we found on craigs-list. We went to USC to take the pics and she was such a joy to work with! Here are a few of my favorites and you can see the whole preview on her website:

Mommy's stuff is not so cool...

A quick story from last night. We all know that a baby will covet things that are important to the people who he thinks are important. So it's very obvious what Joaquin thinks Gideon thinks is important...electronics. He will go after the remote, the cell, the PDA, and the collection of video games under the TV. For Uncle Nate, he goes straight to the guitar and its accessories. What does Mommy find important? .......highlighters. Yes, apparently Joaquin thinks that my valued possessions are highlighters. He likes to get them from homework sessions and run around the house showing them off. Ay! I guess that's my proof I've been working hard this semester!
